Attebury Honored for Lifetime Achievements
TEGMA members honored Sam Attebury, chairman, Attebury Companies, Inc., of Amarillo, Texas, with the Association's Lifetime Achievement Award at the group's annual meeting on January 28, 2010 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
In presenting the award, TEGMA outgoing Chairman Mike Mandl noted it was nearly 60 years ago that Sam, his brother, Bill, and father, Arnold Attebury, founded Attebury Elevators. The firm has grown to more than 90 facilities with in excess of 160 million bushels of storage space in country elevators, terminals and sub-terminals in the panhandle and north Texas, southern Oklahoma, and New Mexico.
In accepting the award, Attebury said the firm had been successful in coping with times of adversity and was able to expand when the opportunity presented itself. In characteristic humility, he praised his talented management staff - including company president Suzanne Boyce, vice president Ed Laur, and general manager Benjamin Smith and their colleagues - for their abilities to recognize the changes and grow with them.
Mandl said Attebury was one of the true gentlemen in the grain industry whose personal conduct, business accomplishments and support for TEGMA set a high standard for all.
