Inland Waterways
US agriculture relies heavily on the tributary system to move products and for access to export channels. Since FY04, the President’s budget has eliminated funding for this critical tributary system. This loss of efficient transportation costs producers 10-25 cents per bushel. For each year that funding is not restored, the cost of transportation continues to increase. TEGMA assisted the National Association of Manufacturers in founding the Inland Waterways Coalition (IWC) with a goal of working to increase funding for low-use waterways.
